Planting trees at St Mary's School in Carterton

We had a lot of fun helping a group of St Mary’s students plant the five fruit trees they were gifted from our fruit trees in schools program. The area we planted was very hard to dig due to the huge tangle of roots. The students outdid themselves with their enthusiasm and hard work, we had all five trees planted and mulched in no time and it was a stunning sunny day.

Conserving water with hugelkultur and planting donated fruit trees

We have been gifted the fruit trees in schools programme from its founder Hayden Mischefski, he raised funds to donate fruit trees to several Wairarapa schools in the last two years and Te Kura O Papatuanuku has taken on the project and hopes to continue this work. We have five fruit trees to gift to three Carterton schools in 2019, with funding from Carterton District council community grant scheme, the trees have gone to Carterton, St Marys and South End schools this August and we will be following up with after care at the three schools to ensure the trees are all thriving.

Science and Sustainability Project at Lakeview School in Masterton

The Wairarapa Science and Sustainability project brings hands on learning to schools across the region. Thanks to funding from Trust House and COGS we have started our Wairarapa Science and Sustainability Project . This funding allows us to target 700+ Wairarapa students who will participate in our hands on science lessons. Last term we visited Lakeview Primary school in Masterton and taught lessons on composting and soil science.
