Threshing Lavender, Sewing Reusable Vege Bags and Mulching
Today the kids chose from 3 activities. Threshing lavender to make lavender bags that will eventually be sold on our online store or at the Carterton Farmers Market as part of Earth Schools sustainable enterprise. In the coming weeks we will learn about propagation and propagate our own lavender.
Another group worked on sewing reusable vegetable bags. We have been talking about reducing our use of single use plastic bags and the kids are excited to be part of creating a solution. Other students finished sewing bunting made from recycled fabric scraps that will belong to boomerang bags. The bunting can be borrowed by anybody for an event and then brought back to be borrowed again - an alternative to single use decorations and balloons.
Tom worked outside with an enthusiastic group of mulchers and weeders. The gardening group are doing a fantastic job at mulching around our young natives and getting parts of the school food forest weeded.
