School Farm and Bug Hotels Part 2
Today the kids had the choice to work with Tom to continue with the bug hotel, or think about the placement of crops on a scale map of the back field. The students who chose to work on the farm were given a scale map of the field and scale blocks of crops that the students had decided they want to consider. Each block of crop represented enough food to feed the school, selecting more than one block meant we would have enough to sell , or add value to the produce. The students worked with Samson to work out where the best place to put the building would be, they had to think about solar gain, access and zoning of crops.
The bug hotel group made a clay and straw coating for the bug hotel and placed it in the food forest where we hope it will attract beneficial insects. They will be working on creating a green roof for it next.
