Workshop with Yotam Kay

Today Earth School hosted a workshop on Advanced Home Gardening and Introduction to self sufficiency with Yotam Kay from Pakaraka Permaculture.  The take up for this public workshop was fantastic we had 35 participants, including 4 teachers from local schools, our two student project leaders, parents and grandparents from South End School community and attendees from across the Wairarapa and from Wellington. Pakaraka Permaculture is a 1/4 acre organic market garden, a Permaculture consultancy and an education centre for Permaculture, Organic gardening and Self-sufficiency, established in 2014 by Niva & Yotam Kay.

The workshop covered permaculture design, biointensive farming, soil biodiversity, demonstrations in pricking out, planting, preparing soil using double digging and keeping chickens.
