Medieval Skills with miro, year 7 and 8 atSouth End School

The Year 7-8 tamariki at South End School have been studying medieval times and learning about food, work, craft, farming and village life. As part of their learning they met with the Earth School teachers every Monday to try a new medieval skill.

We learnt to make cheese by boiling milk and adding vinegar to make it curdle. We made crackers with oats to eat it with. Tamariki used a hand crank stone flour mill to experience making their own flour which we baked into bread.

Another gardening group planted out a medieval vegetable patch, which included beans, carrots and cabbage which can be harvested later in the year.

We used beeswax to make rolled and dipped candles as well as balms and polishes.
